All is set for the secondary schools’ national ball games to kick off on 8 August 2023 in Kakamega town.

Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association(KSSSA) National Chairman Kipchumba Maiyo said they are impressed with preparations and the games facilities to be used during the events.

Speaking to Kurunzi News at Kakamega School, the chairman Maiyo applauded the hosts for their high standards for the upcoming event. ”We want to welcome everybody to Kakamega… these championship preparations are top notch  and everything is now ready.”

Maiyo said referees and umpires in charge of the upcoming games are undergoing an intensive training clinic to give the best standards for the game.

The Association’s secretary general David Ngugi echoed his sentiments and said the event will attract big crowds to cheer up their teams.

”The games’ teachers are very positive and over above that, the fields here are like a carpet. I think we are going to enjoy our football here,” said Ngugi.

The teams will be stationed at Kakamega School for boys’ teams while the girls will be accommodated at Mukumu girls’ high school. 

The Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Education, Ezekiel Machogu is expected to officially open the games on Tuesday at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Western regional soccer champions in the boys’ category Shanderema high school, who defeated Musingu Boys in the regional finals, will open with their match against North Eastern champions Khofor Harar in group A at Bukhungu Stadium. Nyanza champions Agoro Sare and Central region champions Kirangari are also pooled in the same group.

Group B consists of six times champions St. Anthony Boys Kitale, Nairobi champions Dagoretti High School, Matiliku Boys, and Serani Boys from Eastern and Coast regions respectively.

In other categories, long tennis will be played at Kakamega sports club while table tennis and badminton will be hosted at Masinde Muliro University.

Other games are expected at Kakamega High, St. Ignatius Mukumu Boys, and Kakamega Approved School.
