Vihiga United maintained their revival tactics with a labored 3-2 win over their hosts Mt. Kenya United in the only Sportpesa Premier League match staged before a sizeable at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos
Vihiga, who led 2-0 before the breather, started the match on a high note taking the lead through Chris Masinza, who struck a double with Lawrence Luvanda – on loan from AFC Leopards, scoring the other goal.
The three points were crucial for the Kakamega side, who have now hauled themselves out of the relegation zone. The win was widely cheered by their dozen of fans who traveled with the team to cheer them up.
MKU, coached by Mellis Medo, still remain rooted at the bottom of the standings with 12 points, while the three points are a big boost for Vihiga, who came into the match third from bottom but now move up to 13th with 18 points.
Medo felt the match could have gone either way.
“We were just unlucky. We had clear chances to finish the game but our finishing was rather suspicious,” he said.
“We shall try to raise our game in the second leg once we make several changes which we anticipate after offloading some players .”
