Tricky affair, nerves as Leopards face off with Tusker

AFC Leopards have another chance to redeem their image when they face former champions Tusker in Machakos on Saturday in what is billed to be the highlight of the weekend.

Eight matches have been lined up this weekend, five on Saturday and three others slated for Sunday March 10.

Defending Champions Gor Mahia will be missing in action as they are away in Egypt to face Zamalek in the return leg of their CAF Confederations Cup set for Sunday in Cairo.

Ingwe will be looking to build on their last weekend’s successful outing after they beat Sony Sugar with a solitary goal in Kakamega  to haul themselves out of the danger zone and at the same time end their six-match losing streak. The club now needs to win in Machakos to get themselves out of the relegation zone.

Rwanda-born Leopards coach Andre Casa Mbungo will be crossing his fingers praying for his charges to repeat last weekend’s performance as they face the bottlers.

The Rwandese tactician is faced with a long list of injuries led by Marcel Kaheza, last week’s scorer against Sony Sugar Wayi Yeka and Eugene Mukangula.

Captain Robinson Kamura should form part of the four-man defence alongside Salim Abdalla, Dennis Shkayi, Whyvonne Isuza and former Zoo FC star, Isaac Kipyegon.

Mbungo believes the future is bright for the club and nothing will stop them from finishing in the top five.

Tusker coach Robert Matano  has endured a poor run. He was a bitter man a fortnight ago when his team lost narrowly 1-0 to Gor Mahia where he claimed his team was robbed after being denied two clear goals.

The bottler also lost 1-0 to Nzoia Sugar last week. The club has won one of their five games in the last one month that proves Matano’s job is not safe.

Emery Mvuyekure will stand between the bottlers’ posts assisted by veteran Lloyd Wahome, Erick Ambunya,Marlone Tangauzi, and Hillary Wandera .

“We cannot underrate Leopards going by their current form. I believe the team that will utilize their chances will carry the day,” says Matano.
