Trans-Nzoia widows receive fertilizer donation from local MCA

More than 1000 widows and widowers from Nabiswa ward in Kiminini Sub County have benefited from a supply of top dressing fertilizer trough the ward specific kitty set to boost their Maize yields.

The 50 kg bags of Calcium Ammonia Nitrate (C.A.N) fertilizer were availed to the needy women and men at several picking points in the ward following an initiative by area MCA Martin Simiyu.

“We are much aware that there delays in rainfall and thus there is possibility of this region experiencing poor Maize yields. We saw it fit to support them to boost their production,” Mr. Simiyu spoke during the issuance of the input at Kiungani.

The beneficiaries were drawn from each village in each of the sub-locations in a coordinated plan that brought on board the area ward administrator Florence Chemayiek, Chiefs, assistant chiefs and village elders.

“We are grateful for this donation since it will help us to get better harvest at the end of the season. Most of us are hit starvation since we are no income,” said Mrs. Beatrice Shivachi, a beneficiary.

The ward Administrator said the project is part of the community based initiatives by the county government of Trans Nzoia which are geared towards alleviating economic hardships.

Kiungani Chief Mildred Chesoli and her Matunda counterpart Frida Magati said the donation will be handy to the group which consists of subsistence farmers to be self sufficient.

“Food security is very key in the lives of vulnerable groups. Most of them are faced with economic hardships since they have been deserted by those who are close to them or the society,” said Mrs Chesoli.
