In the heart of Muhoroni Koru Ward, Muhoroni Constituency, a group of courageous widows is driving an inspiring social and economic revolution.
The Gweny Gi Wang’i Widows group has united women from the community to foster empowerment, support one another, and create opportunities for a better future. Through their collective strength, they are reshaping their destinies and uplifting their surroundings.
“We decided to come together to support each other and work toward a better life,” said Grace Atieno, one of the group’s members. “As widows, we face many challenges, but we are determined to overcome them. Through unity and hard work, we are achieving great things.”
The group is built on the foundation of shared goals, where each member brings their unique skills and experiences to the table. They have formed a cooperative that focuses on creating sustainable income-generating projects, such as farming initiatives, handicrafts, and small-scale businesses.
“We believe in the power of community-driven solutions,” explained Esther Achieng, another member of the group. “Our success lies in our collective effort, and together, we can create a lasting impact.”
Their initiatives are not just about financial independence, but also about nurturing a sense of belonging and hope. Through the group’s projects, they have been able to support their families, invest in education for their children, and improve their living standards. Many of the beneficiaries of these efforts have also been inspired to get involved in similar community-based initiatives, spreading the message of resilience and unity.
“The change in my life has been amazing,” shared Mary Ochieng, a mother of three. “Before joining this group, I struggled to make ends meet. Now, I am able to provide for my children and take part in a community that cares for each other.”
Their continued progress highlights the significance of grassroots initiatives in transforming lives. With each success, the Gweny Gi Wang’i Widows group is rewriting their stories—proving that, despite hardships, unity, determination, and a shared vision can lead to profound change.
“We are not just widows; we are women with dreams, strength, and hope,” concluded Grace Atieno. “Together, we are making a difference, and we are proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
