The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Japheth Ouko Mayore Isaboke, the Principal Prosecution Counsel in charge of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Kilgoris, for allegedly soliciting a bribe.

According to the EACC, Isaboke demanded KSh50,000 from a businessman in exchange for fast-tracking a court case. However, after negotiations, the amount was reduced to KSh 40,000. The complainant, instead of complying, reported the matter to the anti-graft agency.

Following the report, the EACC launched an operation that culminated in Isaboke’s arrest on Sunday, 16 February 2025. He was caught receiving KSh20,000 as part of the bribe.

“The suspect was apprehended while taking a portion of the bribe in an undercover sting operation,” a source within the EACC disclosed.

The arrested prosecutor was detained at Kisii Police Station before being released on a KSh 30,000 cash bail as investigations continue.

The EACC has reiterated its commitment to weeding out corruption in public institutions, urging the public to report any cases of graft.

“We will not relent in our fight against corruption. Public officers entrusted with upholding justice must be held accountable,” an EACC spokesperson Erick Ngumbi stated.
