Sportpesa Premier League: Wanga on target, stakes claim of golden boot

Former SportPesa Premier League Most Valuable Player Mike Madoya struck twice as Tusker FC rallied to rout basement side Mount Kenya United 4-1 at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, on Thursday evening.

Golden Boot race leader, Allan Wanga also found the back of the net to extend his tally to 17 as he led Kakamega Homeboyz FC to a 2-0 win over Nzoia Sugar FCat Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

Hosts Ulinzi Stars were stunned 1-0 by Posta Rangers FC- the mailmen doing their survival chances a world of good- at Afraha Stadium as Sony Sugar FC outclassed Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) FC 2-0 in Awendo.

Madoya scored his brace in the 69th and 92nd minutes with former Gor Mahia man Timothy Otieno and David Majak also on the scoresheet in the 30th and 73rd in that order.

The victory took Tusker to sixth on 45 while Mt. Kenya, who pulled a goal through a spot kick taken by Amani Kyatta in the 11th, remained bottom on 18.

Wanga and David Odhiambo were the heroes as they led visiting Homeboyz to victory in Bungoma in a ‘western derby’ as the winners kept their push for a top four finish alive.

The goal saw Wanga go a goal clear of Sofapaka FC marksman Umaru Kasumba in the enthralling battle to become the leading forward this term with five or six games to go.

The victory saw Homeboyz (48) jump over Mathare United FC who could only lose 2-3 on Wednesday against Kariobangi Sharks to fourth while Nzoia (32) dropped to 12th.

Rangers found the back of the net through Gearson Likono in the 62nd to deny Ulinzi crucial points in Nakuru.

The win moved Rangers (29) away from the relegation zone, perching them in 14th while the soldiers (39) remained in eighth.

Salmon Omolo Agogo and Derrick Otanga scored as Sony beat KCB at Awendo Green Stadium to move to seventh.
