Rained off Sony-Leopards KPL fixture to be replayed at Awendo

The Kenyan Premier League tie pitting
hosts Sony Sugar and AFC Leopards  was stopped midway in the second half owing to heavy down pour at the Awendo Green Stadium.

The match, according to match officials, will resume today (Monday April 15) at the same venue.

Heavy rains poured inside the pitch reducing the venue appear like a swimming pool. Leopards at the time were leading 1-0 thanks to Whyvonne Isuza’s third minute strike.

The game will now be replayed from the start at the very same venue on Monday with the kickoff times still to be confirmed.

The decision was arrived at after consultations between the match officials and both teams’ captains.

In Machakos, a added time penalty was all Sofapaka needed to dispatch hapless Kenya  Commercial Bank.

Umaru Kasumba netted a 93rd minute penalty after Titus Achesa had been brought down in the area by KCB captain Michael Kibwage.

Surprisingly, KCB lost the first leg encounter with a similar scoreline at the same venue under the same circumstances through a
late penalty by Kasumba after the same Kibwage had handled the ball in the danger zone.

The loss sees the bankers drop down to 10th place with 29 points while
Sofapaka return back to second on the standings after briefly being
dislodged by Bandari who claimed a 2-1 win against Western Stima also
on Sunday.

Batoto Ba Mungu move up to 44 points to tie leaders Gor Mahia, though K’Ogalo has the advantage of having played four games less.
