Nyamira leaders hail President Kenyatta for ‘favoring’ county with appointments

Leaders drawn from Nyamira County have saluted President Uhuru Kenyatta for what they termed as ‘favoring’ the Gusii community in top government appointments during his second term in office.

Speaking during a church fundraiser at Nyamwetureko Catholic in West Mugirango Constituency, governor John Nyagarama noted the president had shown his confidence with the work done by the leaders from the Gusii community, noting how Nyamira county had taken the lion’s share in the latest appointments.

“I want to thank His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta for the favor and confidence he has shown to our community and appointed our sons and daughters in top government posts, Nyamira has benefitted from the appointments and that we should thank him so as we get more of our children get more top jobs,” he said.

Aspiring Member of Parliament and Nairobi lawyer – Stephen Mogaka, asked the Community’s elected leaders to take advantage of their positions to lobby for more jobs for their people instead of fighting those who had been given an opportunity to serve Kenyans.

Mogaka took issue with the MPs from the region allied to the Deputy President William Ruto for constantly throwing tantrums to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior – Fred Matiangi, for being close to the President and who they (MPs) have seen as a barrier to block the DP from ascending to power in 2022.

“You cannot take an axe and start cutting down a tree on which your brother has climbed and he is picking fruits, our elected leaders should be realistic and stop fighting our own when he’s being elevated,” said Mogaka, adding “instead we should support the CS because the President himself has confidence in him and other more Gusii professionals”.

“An enemy should not use you to fight and disorganize your own house, let’s build one another so as more goodies are realized during President Uhuru’s tenure.”

A forth night ago, the Head of State moved the immigration department to the Interior docket, a move that has been largely interpreted to be a marker of trust in Matiangi.

Advocate Gershom Otachi Bw’Omanwa has also been the latest appointee to head the National Land Commission, taking over from Mohammed Swazuri after his corruption-riddled tenure ended unceremoniously early this year.

Political pundits suggest the President is preparing Matiangi for greater roles and could include grooming him for the coveted preferred successor in 2022.

Uhuru had, sometime in 2018, said his choice of who to succeed him might shock the nation.

The President and his Deputy’s union has been in shambles after the famous handshake with archrival and opposition leader Raila Odinga in March 2018.
