As he mulls over how to reduce the high cost of living in the nation, President William Ruto claims he can no longer sleep soundly.

The Head of State stated that the cost of living is a key priority for his office and acknowledged the worries and concerns of Kenyans about it.

Ruto said, “The cost of living is keeping all leaders awake, including myself, and this is exactly as it should be,” on June 1 during the Madaraka Day celebration in Embu.

The president also praised Kenya’s standing as a trailblazing country that excels at holding in-depth conversations on important political subjects like the Finance Bill and the Affordable Housing Policy.

“This vibrant national debate sets an inspiring example for others, reaffirming Kenya’s position as a forefront country in democratic discourse and policy engagement,” added Ruto.

He also commended Kenyans for their role in influencing public policies and holding institutions accountable for how they run the country’s business.

More than ever, he said, Kenyans are active participants in creating public policies and holding institutions responsible for how they manage the country’s affairs.

The Azimio la Umoja One-Kenya group has been demonstrating against Ruto’s remarks at the same time that they believe he has failed to address the country’s high cost of living.

The leader of the coalition, Raila Odinga, urged President Ruto to carry out extensive reforms in his government to deal with the problem.

Odinga underlined that because of internal problems within Kenya Kwanza, Kenyans shouldn’t be subjected to exorbitant taxation.

Odinga has urged the government to stop all non-essential government spending right once, including the removal of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) jobs, in his appeal for changes.

In order to force the Kenya Kwanza administration to rescind the Finance Bill 2023, which is presently before the National Assembly, the Azimio leader has also threatened widespread protests.

He claims that the Bill aims to further oppress Kenyans at a time when the majority are struggling financially as a result of the country’s high cost of living.
