Mumbi Girls High School matron has been found dead in her house, a case confirmed to be suicide.
Murang’a county police commander Josephat Kinyua confirmed the incident, saying the body was discovered on Tuesday morning in her house in the school’s living quarters.
Joyce Mwinzi’s body was found dangling in her sitting room by the school’s grounds man and a librarian. Her husband had been making calls to her in vain and opted to ask about her whereabouts.
School principal Esther Njeri said Mwinzi was not expected at work on Monday and had been scheduled to visit her husband in Gatanga sub-county, which made it impossible for anyone to be suspicious about any of her moves.
“She had been with the institution for 33 years and never showed any signs of depression or mental illness,” said the principal.
The police boss decried the high cases of suicide in the county, urging locals to find alternative help in case of suicidal thoughts.
