Matiangi Deploys police to Hunt down the Matungu killer gang

An elite and dreaded General Service Unit has been deployed to Kakamega County in a bid to handle the recent deterioration of security in the region.

This follows Thursday’s visit by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi who has vowed to sustain the crackdown until the killer gang is stopped.ADVERTISEMENT

Already two suspects, one of whom is a convict who escaped from prison, have been arrested for questioning and possible prosecution pending a determination of their links with the dreaded gang.

“There’ll be no retreat and no surrender until peace, law and order are restored in Matungu. No one has the leeway to terrorize or intimidate residents. This must stop. Peace is not negotiable,” he added.

“Leaders should conduct themselves with respect and respect the lives of other people.”

The CS said the government would utilize all resources at its disposal to find a permanent solution following a spate of killings of more than 20 people in less than four months, especially in Matungu and Khwisero sub-counties.

He has sent a stern warning to the perpetrators saying that not one of them will escape justice.

Matiangi said members of the gang can voluntarily surrender before they are smoked out by police from their hideouts.

The CS has further condemned leaders who hire goons to intimidate and use violence on residents to the point of shedding blood in order to appear powerful.

He warned that the government will not hesitate in arresting anyone found culpable of causing trouble in the society regardless of their status.

“Leaders should conduct themselves with respect and respect the lives of other people.”

He was accompanied by Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Regional Commissioner Ann Ng’etich, and leaders from the area.
