Mathare United lose as Leopards, Sofapaka drop crucial league points

Sony Sugar registered a comprehensive 2-1 win over visiting Mathare United in a mid-week Sportpesa Premier League match staged at the Moi Sports center Kasarani.

It was all smiles for the Sugar merchants, coach Patrick Odhiambo lauding his charges for following his instructions and utilizing their
chances.

The visitors surprised their hosts with a 27th minute goal scored by Daniel Otieno but the lead lasted for just three minutes before Klinsmann Omulanga restored parity to make the score line read 1-1.

Former Gor Mahia winger, Enock Agwanda, ensured the sugar millers left Nairobi with maximum points; a few days after
they defeated  Posta Rangers by the same scoreline.

Midfielder Maxwell Onyango was booked by referee for a deliberate shove on David Owino in the 25th minute and two minutes later, Robert Achema set up Daniel Otieno for the opener.

Sony’s win keeps them in sixth position after 22 matches, while Mathare United stay fourth on the log.

Chemelil Sugar are still 14th and Posta Rangers, who are 16th.

In other matches played on Wednesday, Posta Rangers were held by Chemelil Sugar, restricted them to a 0-0 scoreline as John Kamau’s men posted their seventh match without a win.

Elsewhere, Sofapaka were held to a barren draw by Ulinzi Stars, while Chemelil Sugar settled for a similar score line.

AFC Leopards’ impressive run was brought to a halt after they were held  to a 1-1 draw by visiting Kakamega Homeboys in Machakos.
