Machakos: Medical board reopens Shalom Hospital after inspection

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board has given Shalom Hospital in Machakos county approval to resume operations.

The hospital shot into limelight earlier this month following the death of a seven-month-old baby boy under unclear circumstances.

Ethan Muendo is said to have died after allegedly receiving an injection at the hospital.

Ethan’s tragic death saw the facility closed following a directive by Machakos governor, Alfred Mutua.

However, a committee tasked to probe the hospital has given it the greenlight to reopen.

Led by KMPDB Chief Executive Daniel Yumbya, the committee said they were satisfied with measures put in place by the hospital to provide healthcare services.

“As a board, we did an inspection and we are impressed by the changes implemented,” said Dr Eva Njenga who was the chairperson of the team.

“The hospital is very clean and all that we requested for has been put in place. We have agreed that this hospital resumes operations,” she added.
