Leopards ease their relegation woes with crucial victory over Western Stima

AFC Leopards needed a stoppage time goal to register a comprehensive 2-1 win over stubborn Western Stima in a Sportpesa Kenya Premier League match staged at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Tanzanian, Marcel Kaheza did what it matters most by scoring the match winner during stoppage time. By then, fans were making their exit with the score line reading 1-1.

Kaheza, who replaced Brian Marita on 53 minutes, latched onto a long ball from the midfield, charged down the right flank before unleashing a left foot curler into the roof of the net, with Stima custodian Stephen Otieno left hapless.

Stima will however count themselves unlucky as they wasted a number of chances that included a spot kick that was wasted by Kennedy Agogo Otieno.

Wesley Kemboi gave the visitors the match opener in the 38th minute with an easily taken lop from outside the box before Vincent Oburu
buried a rebound after Stephen Otieno failed to deal with a shot inside the area six minutes after the break for the equaliser.

The result sees Leopards move up four places on the standings to 13th with 19 points, four behind Stima, who are ninth with 23 points.

In another match, title-chasing Bandari FC were held  to a barren draw by hosts Chemelil Sugar.

The point is a welcomed result for Bandari, who had lost their last two games to relinquish their hold on top spot.

They move to joint top of the standings with Sofapaka at 33 points, while Chemelil adds a bit of distance between them and the drop zone with the millers now on 18 points, two above the relegation.

The only KPL match set for Sunday will pit Posta Rangers against KCB at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
