Leopards dumped out of Shield by lowly Bungoma side

Premier League giants AFC Leopards were the biggest casualties of the round of 16 after they were knocked out of the annual 2019 SportPesa Shield, going down to FKF Division One Zone B side – Bungoma Superstars, 3 – 4 on post match penalties.

The match was played at the Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega, on Sunday.

Bungoma Superstars, coached by former International Ibrahim Shikanda are known for eliminating KPL bigwigs, having dumped Sofapaka in the first round.

This time, they continued with their giant killing spree after taking a first half lead through Menganyi George in the 11th minute, forcing Leopards to wait till late in the game for the equalizer through Brian
Marita.

Locked at 1 – 1 at full time, penalties were called to break the tie.

Leopards skipper Robinson Kamura and Marita missed their spot kicks to hand Bungoma Superstars a deserving ticket to the quarter finals.

In other similar matches, Western Stima were made to struggle before edging out Wazito 2-1 at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Other teams that have sailed to the quarters include KPL side Kenya Commercial Bank and SS Assad.

Congo Boyz saw off Mwatate United 5-4 while SS Assad prevailed in a nervy shootout against Naivas FC that ended 9-8.
