Kitui County commissioner Seif Idi Matata was today buried in his ancestral home Eldoro in Taita Taveta county.The career Provincial administrator passed away on Wednesday 9.30 pm at Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi.
According to the family the County commissioner fell ill at the beginning of the year and was first admitted briefly to Nairobi Hospital where he was diagnosed with Liver cancer.
He has been in and out of hospital before he was seriously taken ill last week and admitted to Aga Khan hospital for a week where he succumbed on Wednesday night.His body was airlifted from Nairobi to Taita Taveta on Thursday in a bid to be interred in accordance to the Islamic faith.
Seif Idi Matata’s career spans over three decades in Public Provincial Administration where he started as a Divisional Officer, DO in Funyula Constituency , serving in various capacities and raising through the ranks to the current position of a County Commissioner.
He was eulogized by his friends and colleagues twho termed his death as a loss to both his family and the entire Nation .”He was a dedicated and astute person who was out to serve people under his jurisdiction ,attributes that enabled him be successful in Public service”.said Leonard Ngaluma a former colleague.
He was taken ill before reporting to his new post in Kitui from Turkana county , he leaves behind a wife and four children.
