Harambee Stars and IF Elfsborg midfielder Timothy ‘Babu’ Ouma is close to making a big money move to Czech Republic’s club Slavia Prague, according to reports.
Sources in Sweden say that Ouma has turned down several offers, including big contracts from Saudi Arabian clubs and interest from English teams Luton Town and Sheffield United, to join Slavia Prague.
Slavia Prague has been interested in Ouma for a long time, and the two clubs are close to agreeing on a transfer fee that could be a record for Elfsborg.
The deal now needs final approval from Elfsborg’s board. If everything goes as planned, Ouma could soon be officially announced as a Slavia Prague player.
Since joining Elfsborg from Nairobi City Stars in 2022, Ouma has become an important player for the team. His great performances, including a goal against AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League, have attracted the attention of many top clubs across Europe.
Even though there have been other offers, Ouma has decided to move to Slavia Prague instead of accepting higher-paying deals from Saudi Arabia and the UK.
Elfsborg’s manager, Stefan Andreasson, confirmed that talks are still ongoing but said the transfer is almost done. Ouma’s absence from the club’s training camp in Spain has sparked rumours that the deal is close to being finalized.
Andreasson said the club wants to keep Ouma but is working out the final details with Slavia Prague.
“Discussions are underway. We would have liked to have Timothy with us in Spain, but we are still talking to other clubs,” Andreasson is quoted by Sport Bladet.
“We are also in discussions with Timothy and his representatives. I can’t comment on anything else.”
If the transfer is completed, Ouma’s move could break Elfsborg’s record transfer of €3 million from the sale of goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson to Brentford. Ouma’s deal could reach €3.5 million (KSh465 million).
