KDA-USA mourns loss of legal icon Pheroze Norwojee

Norwojee’s contribution to the fight for justice extended beyond Kenya. Known for his unwavering commitment to truth, he had been slated to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to renowned author Mwalimu Ngugi wa Thiong’o at KDA-USA’s Annual Conference in June. The Kenya Diaspora Alliance USA (KDA-USA) has expressed its profound sorrow over the untimely passing of Senior Counsel Pheroze Norwojee, a champion for human rights and social justice.

Describing him as a “gentle giant” and a staunch defender of democracy, KDA-USA President Dr. Saisi Marasa issued a heartfelt tribute to the late legal luminary.

“Pheroze was a stalwart of the legal and human rights movement in Kenya,” said Dr. Marasa. “He served as the NCEC convener and spokesperson, and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.”

KDA-USA’s statement reflects the deep sadness within the Kenyan diaspora in the U.S., who were looking forward to honoring Norwojee’s legacy.

“This heavy loss comes at a time when our country is undergoing serious leadership challenges, and bold voices like Pheroze’s are more urgently needed than ever,” the statement reads.

Norwojee is survived by his wife Villoo, daughters Binaifer and Sia, and son Elchi. KDA-USA extended its deepest condolences to the family, calling his spirit of justice “a legacy that will live on.”

As Kenya grapples with issues of corruption and human rights violations, the memory of Pheroze Norwojee’s tireless advocacy continues to inspire those who strive for a just and free society. “His spirit lives on,” KDA-USA said.
