President William Ruto’s government has come under sharp criticism for how it continues to handle peaceful demonstrators, who have poured out to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the Finance Bill 2024.

Kenya Diaspora Alliance-USA, which recently honored literary icon Ngugi wa Thiongo in conjunction with other Kenyan diaspora organizations, condemned “the killing of unarmed peaceful protesters and medical personnel”.

“KDA-USA stands in solidarity with Kenyan generation Z, millennials and others protesting the Finance Bill 2024,” said Saisi Marasa, the KDA-USA President, who also called for an end to “abduction of our compatriots”.

“We convey our condolences to the bereaved families and wish those injured a quick recovery. We equally […] and urge for the release of all those that have been abducted in the past few days.

“We call upon all Kenyans and the government to obey the Constitution of Kenya in all they do.

“We urge the government and the President to uphold the right to peaceful demonstrations and protection of all Kenyans and property.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and support our brothers and sisters in Kenya as they exercise their democratic right peacefully.”
