Ingwe, Sharks through to Shield Round of 16, unlucky Sofapaka and Ulinzi bow out

Giants – Sofapaka, Ulinzi Stars and National Super League heavyweights, Ushuru, are among top clubs that have been bundled out of the Sportpesa Shield, having fallen to lesser-known opponents this weekend.

But defending champions, Kariobangi Sharks, AFC Leopards and KCB remain in the competition having been clinical in their encounters and will be in the draw for the round of 16.

Sharks thrashed Elim 5-0, while KCB edged Sindo United from Homabay with a solitary goal scored by Chrispinus Onyango at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

AFC Leopards brought back cheers to their fans with a 4-0 thrashing of Kitale-based Transfoc at the Bukhungu Stadium.

Isaac Oduro, Brian Marita, Vincent Oburu and Marcel Kaheza scored a goal each for Ingwe to ensure they had a perfect start to the domestic cup competition, which they last won in 2017.

Ulinzi and Sofapaka lost by identical 5-4 outcomes to SS Assad and Bungoma SuperStars on post-match penalties.

Nairobi-based Talanta FC failed to show up for their fixture against another Division Two side, Dero FC from Siaya County.
