FKF ‘loses’ OB van as it is repossessed over non-payment

Football Kenya Federation is under pressure to explain the circumstances under which a outside broadcasting van bought by the body has been repossessed by the original owners of the van. The van was bought at a reported KSh. 130million, funds which were donated by world soccer-governing body – FIFA.
A source has told Kurunzi that the van bought from pay-TV giants, SuperSport, had been released to FKF sometime in 2018 with the promise that the money would be paid through an agent but “the money was never paid, leaving SuperSport with no choice but to repossess the van.”
It is understood that the agent received the money to pay SuperSport but never delivered, a move questioned by stakeholders, who have wondered why the federation could not deal with sellers. It is believed that the decision was a ploy to have someone at the federation get kickbacks but the agent may have pocketed the money and shared with high-ranking officials of the federation.
FIFA will demand for the money to be accounted for, something that has sent chills down the federation boss’s spine. Nick Mwendwa is said to be a hands-on and know-it-all boss and must have been aware of the finest details about the deal.
The van was bought to enable the federation package as much football content as possible ad ease the burden of hiring production equipment for league as well as national team matches but the van had not been used anywhere by the time it was seized.
