The former DP’s home has witnessed a steady stream of politicians and opinion leaders over recent months. In one of the most prominent gatherings, Gachagua hosted more than 20 MPs and senators from his political base on 10 January. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s rural residence in Wamunyoro transforms into a political epicenter, stirring nationwide interest with strategic alliances, high-profile consultations, and bold aspirations for 2027.

Nestled in the serene environs, just outside Karatina town, a quiet political revolution is taking shape. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has turned his rural residence into a bustling hub of political activity, drawing leaders from across the nation and sparking speculation about his next move on the national stage.

Political pundit Alexander Nyamboga called Wamunyoro’s newfound prominence “a strategic retreat from state surveillance” as Gachagua crafts his plans for 2027. “This is not just about Gachagua. It’s about reshaping the political future of the country,” Nyamboga said.

The former DP’s home has witnessed a steady stream of politicians and opinion leaders over recent months. In one of the most prominent gatherings, Gachagua hosted more than 20 MPs and senators from his political base on 10 January. These meetings, coupled with lunches and candid discussions, have signaled his intention to consolidate the Mt. Kenya region and expand his influence beyond.

Gachagua’s efforts come amid reports of growing political tensions with President William Ruto.

“This is about teaching Ruto a lesson,” Nyamboga stated. “The sheer number of leaders trooping to Wamunyoro signals a brewing battle of epic proportions.”

Embakasi North MP James Gakuya echoed similar sentiments, describing Wamunyoro as Gachagua’s refuge.

“It’s not just a home; it’s a symbol of resilience,” Gakuya said. He added that the former DP is preparing to launch a new political party in the coming months, a move expected to reshape the country’s political landscape.

While his base remains in Mt. Kenya, Gachagua is actively building alliances in other regions. On 8January, he hosted elders from Kajiado West, emphasizing the need for unity and strategic collaboration. Days later, he met former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka, signaling his intention to forge connections beyond the Mt. Kenya stronghold.

Naivasha MP Jane Kihara described the meetings as “deliberate efforts to understand and address the challenges Kenyans face.” She added, “Gachagua is not just consulting his allies. He’s engaging like-minded leaders who want to save this country from dictatorship.”

Although Gachagua has not officially declared his candidacy for the 2027 presidential race, political insiders suggest his moves are designed to prepare for a significant role in the elections. However, his impeachment in 2022 remains a hurdle, barring him from running unless cleared by the courts.

Meanwhile, Gachagua’s allies are positioning themselves for influential roles. Vocal Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba plans to challenge Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, while Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga eyes a Senate bid.

Gachagua’s growing political momentum has drawn comparisons to President Ruto’s pre-2022 campaign, which saw Ruto transform his Karen residence into a strategic nerve center. Whether Wamunyoro will similarly propel Gachagua onto the national stage remains to be seen.

For now, Wamunyoro stands as a testament to Gachagua’s resolve, with its once-quiet grounds echoing with the sounds of strategy meetings, alliance-building, and a vision for the future.

“This is only the beginning,” Gakuya said. “The political tide is turning, and Wamunyoro is at the heart of it all.”
