FKF Premier League side Nairobi City Stars secured their place in next season’s local football action after a 2-1 win over rivals AFC Leopards in an entertaining fixture staged at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Kelvin Etemesi scored a much-needed brace to see the Stars rally from behind to secure three points after Victor Omune had given Ingwe the lead in the first half in a closed-door fixture.

Leopards were looking to bounce back with a win after last weekend’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz in the FKF Cup semifinals, but the Stars had a purpose to achieve which was to survive the relegation zone.

The win now sees City Stars move up to position 15 having accumulated 33 points with Leopards on the other hand coming in seventh on the log with 48 points.

Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems rued a number of defensive lapses from his team for the defeat while his counterpart Nicholas Muyoti was impressed by his team’s spirited comeback.

City Stars have three games left with Talanta FC, Nzoia Sugar and Gor Mahia waiting on the sidelines.
