High Court suspends Talanta Hela Program, key Ruto allies affected

Radio Personality Carol Radull, ICT Chief Administrative Secretary Dennis Itumbi among others will have to wait a little bit longer for an opportunity to take up responsibilities handed to them by Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.

This comes after the High Court of Kenya suspended the establishment of the Talanta Hela program created by President William Ruto in partnership with the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture in an effort to nurture grassroots talent.

Notwithstanding, the appointment of members to the Council for a period of three years was equally sidelined by the same court.

Justice Lawrence Mugambi suspended the establishment of council until a case filed by a sporting personality Charles Mugane is heard and determined.

In the ruling, the court held “Upon hearing both counsels the notice of motion application be and is hereby granted by issuing an interim order suspending the Special Kenya Gazette Notice No 1640 (Vol.CXXV-No32) dated February 10, 2023.”

This comes only after three months of being in existence after it was established back on February 10, 2023, vide a Kenya Gazette Notice No.1649 (Vol.CXXV No.32).

According to the establishment by President Ruto, Talanta Hela Council has two technical committees, one for sports and one for creatives.

Radull holds the chairperson position of the Sports Technical Committee with Daniel “Churchill” Ndambuki coming in as the chairperson of the Creative Technical Commission.

Those who had landed the new responsibilities of identifying sporting talents include ICT CAS Dennis Itumbi, former Harambee Stars talisman Boniface Ambani and celebrated Javelin Athletics Championship Julius Yego.
