Acakoro Ladies from Nairobi cruised to a 3-2 win over stubborn Ndhiwa Queens from Nyanza during the quarterfinal of the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Youth Tournament that got underway on Thursday 20th June in Meru.
Sylvia Makhungu scored a brace for Acakoro Ladies in the 45th & 53rd minute with Catherine Awuor netting the third goal in the 58th min. Nthiwa replied back through Susan Odindi who scored both goals for the losers in the 7th & 50th minute respectively.
Barcelona Ladies from Central went on a goal scoring spree thumping St.Mary’s Ndovea from Eastern 4-0. Jane Njeri was the star of the clash scoring the four goals in the 29th, 39th , 89th & 90th min.
Bishop Njenga Girls from Western failed to show up owing to prior commitments thus gifting Kitale Queens from Rift Valley with a walk over to the semis.
Changamwe Ladies from Coast also got a bye to the semis, after their purported opponents from North Eastern declined to turn up.
The tournament is being hosted at Kinoru Stadium and ASKS Showgrounds in Meru County respectively.
The event enters its semi final stage today(Friday 21st June) with Acakoro Ladies taking on Changamwe Ladies as Barcelona Ladies face Kitale Queens.
“We’ve had a good victory today. The matches were tough but the girls were tactical and focused. Our opponents had more physique and well-built but we played a more tactical game. We never underestimated our opponent and that has always been our secret to success. We look forward for another victory tomorrow Friday in the semis,” said Pauline Awuor, Coach Acakoro Ladies.
In the boys’ quarterfinals, Al Ahly from Rift won 3-1 against Berlin FC from North Eastern as South B United from Nairobi beat Shimanzi Youth from Coast with a solitary goal.
Lugari Blue Saints from Western also booked a space in the semis after scoring 3-0 against Super Solico from Eastern. Nyanza Champions Manyatta United registered a morale boosting 4-1 against Euronuts from Central to book their slot in the semis as well.
South B United will face Al-Ahly as Lugari Blue Saints prepare to face Manyatta United in the semis set for tomorrow (Saturday 22 June).
“Our win today is as a result of hard work and team spirit. The game was tough but we made it. Our focus is to win the finals and be the champions,” said Al Ahly FC striker Oscar Kengwa.
The winners of the quarter finals will pocket Ksh.250,000 cash reward each and will now proceed to the semifinals set for Friday 21 June and Saturday. The girls will play their semifinals on Friday (today) while the boys will play tomorrow (Saturday 22 June).
