In a landmark step toward promoting sustainability and innovation in vocational education, Edukans Kenya and The Kisumu National Polytechnic have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch a strategic collaboration under the “Wear the Green Future” project.
The dynamic partnership is set to redefine the future of the textile and fashion industry in Kenya by embedding sustainability and circular economy principles into Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
The initiative aims to foster a generation of skilled professionals equipped not only with technical expertise but also with an environmental consciousness that aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development. By co-developing a comprehensive Green Skills Curriculum, the two institutions are committing to a transformative educational experience that bridges skills development with sustainability.
Its curriculum will provide learners with hands-on competencies in sustainable fashion design, eco-friendly production processes, effective waste reduction and management, and innovative approaches to circularity within the textile industry. These modules will be embedded into existing TVET structures, ensuring relevance to the needs of the labor market and alignment with Kenya’s green growth agenda.
A major outcome of the partnership will be the training and empowerment of 2,300 youth, arming them with critical green skills to become changemakers in their communities and leaders within the sustainable fashion and textile sectors. The goal is to ensure that the next generation of workers and entrepreneurs are not only industry-ready but also prepared to tackle pressing environmental and economic challenges with creativity and purpose.
“This MoU signifies more than a partnership—it’s a shared vision for the future of education and industry,” said a representative from Edukans Kenya. “We are proud to work alongside The Kisumu National Polytechnic to shape a new narrative for TVET education, one that is inclusive, forward-thinking, and rooted in sustainability.”
The collaboration also supports the Kenyan government’s commitment to promoting green jobs and transitioning to a circular economy. For The Kisumu National Polytechnic, this initiative aligns perfectly with its mandate to deliver demand-driven education that meets both local and global workforce needs. “Integrating green skills into our training programs means our learners will not only be employable but will also be solution-providers in the face of environmental degradation and economic inequality,” said a senior official from the Polytechnic.
As the partnership moves into implementation, both organizations are committed to fostering continuous innovation, mentorship, and support for the youth participants. By leveraging their combined expertise and resources, Edukans Kenya and The Kisumu National Polytechnic are setting a precedent for impactful partnerships in education, employment, and environmental stewardship.
