A policeman accused of shooting and killing a boda boda rider at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has been charged with murder.
Administration Police constable – Zadock Ochuka Oyieka, pleaded not guilty of killing Daniel Mburu Wangari on 18 February 2020.
The prosecution has lined up 22 witnesses to testify against the officer in the case which will be heard in September 2020 from date 22 to 30th of the same month.
The deceased rider, identified as Mburu, had rushed his neighbour’s baby to the hospital and was later engaged in a dispute with the security guards manning the facility’s gate.
It is then that the officer jerked his rifle and shot the rider, injuring him fatally.
The rider was pronounced dead at the hospital’s emergency section while the officer was arrested the following day.
Witnesses said the officer just cocked his firearm and shot at the boda boda rider despite having been subdued by guards who wanted to know why he entered the hospital with his motorcycle.
